From The Notebooks on Leonardo Da Vinci; The Connection among all Things on the Earth

My in-laws claim to trace their ancestry to Leonardo. I like to call him Cousin Leo, and he has fascinated me since I was a little girl, and first saw Mona Lisa in a book. Read on, in his own words: If man has in himself bones, the supports and armature for the flesh, the world has the rocks, the supports of the earth; if man has in himself the lake of blood, in which the lungs increase and decrease in breathing, the body of the earth has its oceanic sea, which likewise increases and decreases every six hours with the breathing of the world; if from the said lake veins arise, which proceed to ramify throughout the human body, the oceanic sea fills the body of the earth with infinite veins of water.
