Great Show: Growing a Greener World

Here is website to Joe Gardener's PBS show, "Growing a Greener World."https://www.growingagreenerworld.com/

Here is a description as well; "Currently in its ninth season, this gardening series covers everything from edible gardening, urban homesteading and hobby farming to seasonal cooking, canning and preserving the harvest. The website is easy to navigate, and takes you behind the scenes.  It also talks about beekeeping, and slow cooking apple sauces and preserves. I'm happy to say that I did see a bee flying among my flowers. It's true that I have no seen as many.  Makes me want to reread The Secret Life of Bees.

Happy Earth Day

🌏

I spent Earth Day Weekend with the natural world.  I went to the local rock and gem show and found meteorites and feldspar for my husband, and fossils and natural gems for me.  Then, I went to a Mega Mansion sale where I did my own repurposing and recycling.  I planted on Saturday; below are some of my own creations.

Today, I planted green pepper seeds and green onions, a tip I learned on public TV.  I like to experiment this way.  I've had pumpkins from volunteer plants, and grew seeds on wet Kleenex, the way I did in school.

When I was a toddler, the lady across the street used to let me help her plant her garden.  I also loved making bouquets and May basket when I was little.  My mom and I also used to plant and head out for nurseries to choose annuals for our house. Master gardener I may not be, but I love my flowers, and the time I spend tending them.

Happy Earth Day 2018

I read some good suggestions for celebrating Earth Day, something we can all do. For example, take a walk or a bike ride. Save rainwater for plants outside.  Plant something, even something small.

If you a ravine or green space on your property, scatter some seeds. You'd be surprised what happens!
Take some nature photos and share them. My wonderful friend from Australia sent me a wonderful flower guide of plants from her region, some she grows with the most magical green thumb I've ever seen!

Look for recycled objects like bird houses from barn wood or old license plates, or try making your own from dried gourds.

Read books on and about gardens, e.g., Frances Hodgson Burnett's, The Secret Garden, and Rumer Godden's, An Episode of Sparrows.

Organize a fashion show of outfits made from recycled items.  Or, try one designed around thrift store items that are recylced and repurposed.

Go out and look up at the sky.  It's still awe inspiring.

Happy Earth Day 2018!!
